Jamelle K. Smith is an accomplished educational leader with over 18 years of experience dedicated to advancing student achievement and building strong school communities. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Bradley University and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership from the American College of Education.Since joining YES Prep Public Schools in 2015, Jamelle has served in multiple leadership roles, including Special Education Manager, Dean of Instruction, Director of Academics, and Lead Assistant Principal. She currently serves as Principal of YES Prep North Central Elementary, where she leads with a focus on academic excellence, inclusive practices, and a strong, student-centered culture.Prior to YES Prep, Jamelle began her career in Chicago, where she taught students with disabilities at Chicago Public Schools and KIPP Chicago. At George Henry Corliss High School, she served as a Special Education Case Manager, supporting students across all grade levels. During her time there, she also coached track and field, served as advisor for Peer Jury, coordinated after-school programming, and contributed to the school’s Leadership Team and School Improvement Plan for Advancing Academic Achievement.At KIPP Chicago, Jamelle worked closely with primary grade teachers, students, and families (K–5), providing instructional support and implementing targeted interventions to ensure all students met high expectations.Jamelle is deeply committed to equity in education, relationship-building, and developing educators to thrive in their practice. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.
