During my career, I have acquired significant engineering experience in the design of steel, concrete and timber bridges for state departments of transportation throughout the United States. As manager of WSP’s Movable Bridges Group, I am responsible for management, technical direction, design, marketing and project management. My expertise includes: • Over 30 years of extensive experience in the design and analysis of movable bridge structures and rehabilitation of fixed and movable bridge projects. He has worked on over 60 movable (55 bascule) bridge projects including two new bascule bridges.• Implement the use of modern technology/ innovative solutions for movable bridges such as designing the first movable bridge to use Exodermic deck (Ray Nitschke Memorial Bascule Bridge, Green Bay, WI), and the first movable bridge to use a modern orthotropic deck system (Congress Parkway Rehabilitation project, Chicago, IL).• Peer reviewer and Quality assurance checker (QA) for movable bridge projects and complex structures. • Served as Structural Investigator for the NCHRP 14-32 - Revisions to the AASHTO Movable Bridge Inspection, Evaluation and Maintenance Manual and NCHRP 20-07/348 – Review of the AASHTO LRFD Movable Highway Bridge Design Specifications for future updates.• Inspection program manager; NHI Team Leader and Certified Element Level and Fracture Critical (FC) Inspector for safety inspection and evaluation of fixed and Movable bridges. • Project Manager of multidisciplinary bridge projects including design and rehabilitation of movable bridge projects with structural, electrical, mechanical engineering specialty. • Founder and manager of the Movable Bridge Engineers Network Group in Linked-In, with over 3,750 members worldwide.I have earned recognition within WSP in the area of movable bridges and provides services and expertise to projects throughout the firm where complex or major bridges are involved.
