ABOUT JAKOB TRIBULA
A German Engineer, Scottish Risk Manager and aspiring global Insurance Professional – That is me. I graduated with Distinction from Glasgow Caledonian University with a Master’s degree in Risk Management. Before broadening my understanding of Risk through this degree, I studied Rescue Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne while working part-time in the plant fire brigade at the Bosch plant in Buehl/Germany. In this job I was responsible for writing a new fire prevention concept for the plant and a requirement plan for the plant fire brigade while being on call during and after working hours. My time at Bosch made me appreciate the role of insurance in business much more, leading to an Internship at Wuerttembergische Versicherung and eventually to a full-time job as a Junior Underwriting Assistant at Chubb. While working at Chubb, I was part of the German project-team of beta-testers for a new policy administration software while still providing assistance to the Underwriters in day-to-day work. This job made me fall in love with the insurance industry, which is why I now pursue the Qualifications of the Chartered Insurance Institute, with the goal of obtaining the Advanced Diploma in Insurance to supplement my University degrees. The CII Curriculum and the knowledge gained through it has also helped me on my path of pursuing a PhD in Risk, Finance and Accounting at Glasgow Caledonian University. In my research, I explored the decision-making process of individuals in regards to buying (or more often not buying) catastrophe, and in particular flood, insurance. I particularly focused on the impact of insurance policy attributes on this process and how parametric insurance and its influence on these policy attributes might affect the decision-making. This research perfectly combined my new-found love for academia and my interest in the insurance industry and risk.
