ABOUT JACOB FERRELL

I am a political ecologist and climate policy analyst interested in the philosophy of praxis. My work bridges critical theory and policy analysis, with a focus on industrial decarbonization, carbon removal, and the geopolitics of climate overshoot. Currently, I am a Research Assistant at Ecologic Institute in Berlin, contributing to the European Climate Neutrality Observatory (ECNO) by developing indicators, visualizing data, and helping track the EU’s path to climate neutrality. In the U.S, I worked with the World Resources Institute on community benefit frameworks for clean energy infrastructure, and with the National Wildlife Federation on the politics of carbon removal and environmental justice. Alongside this, I co-led the inaugural CDR Justice Fellowship at American University and provided research assistance for Andreas Malm and Wim Carton’s books Overshoot (2024) and The Long Heat (2025). I hold an MSc in Human Ecology from Lund University and a BA in History & International Development from Ohio State.
