Jake Gentle is a Senior Technical Manager and Area Lead for the Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Secure and Resilient Grid Integration Portfolio and Distributed Energy Systems Area. Gentle is a formally trained Power Systems Engineer and INL’s Laboratory Relationship Manager to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Electricity (OE) and Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO).He leads multiple research teams, guiding the development and commercialization of technologies, provides technical oversight and coordinates innovative, state-of-the-art solutions for various electric power industry partners and the DOE’s OE, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) and Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) Office. Since 2009, Gentle has led multiple programs focused on enhancing grid resiliency and adaptability. This research includes leading the cybersecurity roadmap for variable energy technologies, cybersecurity threat assessments, resiliency and security of distributed energy technologies in microgrid applications and facilitating the global advancement of innovation, verification and validation of Grid Enhancing Technologies. Gentle serves as the Smart Electric Power Alliance Cybersecurity Work Group Co-Chair, is a RE+ Core Education Committee member and is an active, voting member in both the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards Association.Gentle has led various INL initiatives and has multiple patents, copyrights and over 100 publications and conference proceedings
