Bilingual Education for Central America exists to promote cultural exchange and affordable bilingual education. In our volunteer-driven bilingual school model, our students learn from dedicated volunteer teachers, and our volunteers learn from the community in which they are immersed.• Collaborated with local community members to create a unique cross-cultural community school model that offers disadvantaged children a quality bilingual education, long-term volunteer teachers an authentic cultural immersion experience, and parents opportunities for education and leadership development.• Currently serving 500 children and their families and 30 full-time volunteers at three partner schools in Honduras.• Designed, introduced and fine tuned “BECA model” - Honduran colleagues manage school’s daily operations. BECA supplies teachers at no expense to school. More than 40% of students receive need-based scholarships. Scholarship families \"pay\" for education through service program that offers parents leadership development opportunities.• Designed and help facilitate highly selective annual volunteer teacher recruitment and training processes.• Fostered relationships with Honduran community partners, government officials, and other Honduran NGOs. • Solicited alumni-designed culturally relevant K-9th grade sheltered English language immersion curriculum and support ongoing use of family literacy program designed to encourage families to read together at home. • Created social tourism program to build support network, raise funds and provide teacher assistance. • Secure funding and steward relationships with funders/friends.
