About Jagat

Prof Jagat Ram has contributed significantly in the field of phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. He has 283 scientific publications. He evaluated the largest database of the world using Miyake-Apple-view and published studies made global impact. He is the only invitee from Asia-Pacific region to contribute a Complete Issue “Elimination of Cataract Blindness” in Survey Ophthalmology. He delivered over 317 lectures in pediatric/ age-related cataract in scientific conferences. He trained over 150 ophthalmologists from all over the country. He introduced surgical technique of phacoemulsification at PGI, Chandigarh in 1994 and Republic of Seychelles in 2003. Prof. Ram has conducted over cataract surgical procedures in adult and approx. 7800 cataract surgical procedure in children (with tertiary care set up). Prof. Jagat Ram has frequently offered his services in organizing, participating and operating free of cost using the latest technology in 112 major Eye Relief Camps for needlessly blind patients. Dr Jagat Ram has completed over 32 collaborative research projects (Four funded by ICMR and one International). Prof. Jagat Ram is involved in training more than 150 postgraduate / trainee ophthalmologists in Phacoemulsification and pediatric cataract surgery. As a Consultant Ophthalmologist with the Republic of Seychelles (20••••05) he eliminated the backlog of cataract blindness in this Island Nation. Awarded Best of the Best Winner at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Society Conference held at San Fracisco, April 21, 2013, Best Video Award in the category of Special cases and Orbis International Gold Medal at European Society of cataract and Refractive Society Meeting held at Milan, Italy from Sept 8-12 and Distinguish Service awards by Asia-Pacific Ophthalmology Feb 2013, recipient of prestigious Dr P. Siva Reddy International Award (2012).
