ABOUT JAEDON CHARLES

I’m a first-generation Computer Science student at FIU who really enjoys learning how AI and machine learning can solve real-world problems. What drives me is the feeling of building something useful; something that helps people understand information better, work more efficiently, or connect in a meaningful way.At FIU, I work as a Research Assistant in the Advanced Materials and Infrastructure Durability Lab. A big part of what I do is helping create a research website that makes the lab’s work easier for others to access and understand. I’m also exploring how Physics-Informed Neural Networks can model advanced construction materials, which has pushed me to think about AI in a more applied and hands-on way.I’ve had the chance to work on projects that challenge me in different ways, whether it’s building a forecasting pipeline using open-source conflict data, training LLaMA-based models, or developing automated tools that help streamline communication for FIU students. I enjoy the process of figuring things out, especially when the work has a real impact.Outside of technical work, I care a lot about community. As a Computing Senator, I represent more than eight thousand students in the College of Engineering and Computing. I focus on responsible AI use, student support, and making sure people feel heard. I also taught Python to middle-school students in Miami-Dade, which helped me see how powerful it is when young students feel confident with technology.I’m always open to connecting with people in AI, research, engineering, or anyone who’s working on something they’re excited about. I enjoy hearing different perspectives and learning from others, so feel free to reach out.
