Gained insights on different applications of AI through the first half of the program comprised of 13 weeks- Learned about the different machine learning methods - linear regression, decision trees, support vector machine, XG boost, k-neighbors, random forest classifiers - and how to to build an AI predictive model- Collaborated in a group of 5 fellow students to build an NLP + supervised ML model in Jupyter Notebook to predict vocational students’ mental health status (Healthy, At risk, Struggling) from a Kaggle dataset of ~500 entries, using GitHub for version control; Achieved best results with Random Forest (68% accuracy, 0.33 F1-score, 100% recall for “Struggling” students)- Integrated bias and fairness assessment by addressing data collection limitations and defining scope of application, ensuring generalizable and ethical predictions
