I am a McNair Scholar mentored by Dr. Kazzem Akinyele, Department Chair and Associate Professor of Accounting. As a scholar, I am writing a literature review titled “Automation in Accounting: The Good, The Bad, and The Future,” which analyzes how Generative AI, Robotic Process Automation, Optical Character Recognition, and Cloud Accounting are transforming efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making in the profession. The review also examines machine learning, natural language processing, cognitive RPA, and intelligent character recognition, weighing their advantages against risks such as data quality, ethics, and workforce disruption.This work unites my double major in Accounting and Information Systems, showcases my passion for technology-enabled accounting, and reflects my drive to understand the shift from descriptive to predictive analytics through AI. Findings will offer practical insight into emerging skill needs, predictive analytics, and risk-based strategy for accountants. I expect to complete the research in early August 2025.The McNair Scholars Program has sharpened my research and presentation abilities through faculty mentorship, funded inquiry, and graduate-school preparation. I aim to bring fresh perspectives on automation to the accounting field and to pursue advanced study that blends data analytics with professional judgment.
