ABOUT JACQUES BUHART
Jacques Buhart focuses his practice on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and EU/French competition investigations and litigation. In his cross-border transactional practice, Jacques represented, among others, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in its acquisitions of minority interests in Orano and Framatome and in its attempt to acquire Alstom together with Siemens, Metsäliitto in various acquisitions and divestitures in Europe, Toyota Motor Corporation in setting up its plant in France, or TUI in various acquisitions in France and numerous other French and international companies on public take over bids, acquisitions, divestitures and joint-ventures. On the competition side, Jacques has handled a broad range of complex competition matters. In the merger field, among others, he represented Cellnex as intervening party in the merger of Vodafone and Telecom Italia in INWIT, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry as intervening party in the GE/Alstom merger, Canon in its acquisition of OCE (the Netherlands) or TotalFina in its acquisition of Elf and handled several Phase II cases. In the cartel area at the EU level, Jacques represented a Japanese car parts manufacturer in the EU and coordinated the investigations in the US, Canada, Africa and other jurisdictions. He was also involved in the EU freight forwarding case, vitamins international cartel case, and in several cartel investigations in France for GEA and Kuehne + Nagel. On the litigation side, Mr Buhart represented Cascades in the carton board cartel case at the Court of First Instance in Luxembourg; Daiichi Pharmaceutical in the vitamins cartel case at the Court of First Instance; and Coca-Cola at the Court of Appeal in Paris against allegations of abuse of dominant position. In addition, Jacques represented the IBA as intervening party in the AKZO legal privilege case at the Court of first instance and the Court of Justice. Mr Buhart has been a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo since 2004. He is a member of the board of the Sorbonne Law School. He served as chair of the International Bar Association’s section on business law between 2001 to 2003. Jacques received his legal education from the University of Paris, DESS in, the Hague Academy of International Law, the Institute of Comparative Law, Paris. He also graduated from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP).
