ABOUT JACQUES-OLIVIER PESME
I have dedicated my career to making a meaningful impact on communities and society. All along the years at various leading universities around the world, over the past 20 years, I have deepened my expertise and engagement in the vine and wine sector.Now, as Executive Director of the Wine Origins Alliance, I work to rigorously defend appellations of origin across 35 wine regions in 12 countries, addressing international regulatory challenges and facilitating the development of global wine trade. My role is to anticipate and respond to the contemporary challenges facing the industry, while safeguarding the competitiveness and sustainability of these unique regions in an evolving global landscape.Academically, I led the Wine Research Centre at the University of British Columbia (UBC, Canada), where our multidisciplinary research focused on sustainability, competitiveness, and innovation in the vine and wine sector. Previously, as a Professor at the University of Adelaide (Australia) and Associate Dean at KEDGE Business School (France), I spearheaded several programs, including the launch of a campus in Western Africa and the creation of the Wine & Spirits Academy, a leading wine management center of expertise.
