ABOUT JACQUELINE MARTIN

Passionate about improving outcomes and helping people achieve their life goals whatever their background and context. After initially training and working as a teacher, I spent 20+ years in educational publishing designing and delivering evidence-based educational products, training and services. I was also responsible for evaluating their impact and working with both internal teams and education institutions to ensure effective implementation and improve performance. Alongside this I have always had a keen interest in mental health and the links between mental health and education outcomes. The focus of my MEd dissertation was on policy relating to mental health provision in UK schools. The rise in demand for mental health support during and since the covid pandemic prompted me to return to my psychological roots and retrain as a therapist.I took a training role in the NHS, qualifying initially as a mental health and wellbeing practitioner. In this role I delivered CBT based psychological interventions, trauma-informed care and solution-focussed therapy. Since then I have completed additional training in structured clinical management, acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy and have transitioned to a role as a psychological therapist. In parallel I have been studying for my BACP diploma in counselling and hope to qualify at the end of this academic year.Core strengths include relationship building, collaboration and client focus. I also have 10 years experience of managing, mentoring and/or coaching junior staff members. Additionally I served for 11 years as a school governor in good and outstanding schools. In my tenure we went through three Ofsted inspections and the academisation process and are now part of a successful MAT including a Tech Demonstrator school and Teaching School Hub. I held positions as Vice Chair of Governors, Chair of the Quality of Education committee and Policy officer. I would potentially be interested in extending this experience into trustee and/or NED roles.
