When I launched my training and coaching business I went to networking events (with the intention of getting clients) that left me feeling underwhelmed. I’m an introvert and walking into a crowded room does not come easily to me, in fact the first networking event that I attended was short-lived. I registered, went to the ladies, re-applied lipstick, picked up my coat and went home!One evening I was moaning to my business coach that networking didn’t work. I told him all the things that I would do if I was to run them. He called my bluff, suggested that with the skills and resources I had I should start my own!What did he mean by skills and resources you might wonder? Well, I’m a whizz at creating community, whether it is implementing learning centres, training solutions, hosting ‘round-tables’ or arranging a dinner party. I have a knack of bringing the most unlikely people together and creating an experience for them.Over the years I’d honed my skills, became an NLP Trainer and coach and studied many modalities in business and personal development. I just love learning and transferring the skills to others.The seed was planted and the more I thought about it the more I loved the idea. I would create what I craved to attend.That was 2005, in 2006 The Athena Network had grown so rapidly I couldn’t host all the meetings on my own so I franchised and the team grew. 15 years later and we are now the leading network for businesswomen. A testament to our resilience and the structure of our business is how we navigated through lockdown and COVID.
