Devise lifestyle medicine components for required course on Social and Behavioral Determinants of Health. Teach nearly 200 first year medical students about prevention vs treatment vs health promotion; global scope connecting behavioral actions to disease; national association guidelines (e.g. American Heart Association [AHA] and American Diabetes Association [ADA]) regarding lifestyle interventions; lifestyle vital signs; core competencies; and how to prescribe lifestyle medicine. Design and examine cases to illustrate use of motivational interviewing and viable lifestyle solutions. Reinforce patient assessment of nutritional status, physical activity, stress level, sleep, and social connectedness. Review Prochaska\'s stages of change. Demonstrate individual, social, cultural, and community barriers to change and how to overcome them. Dispel myths about lifestyle medicine and discuss how lifestyle impacts all medical supspecialties. Outline group work as multidisciplinary team and introduce practitioner lifestyle modeling.
