Working on the BBSRC funded grant \"The iron-regulated control network of nutrient uptake in plants\", I aim to understand how plants manage iron homeostasis through the activity of BTS and BTSL proteins. These serve as molecular switches, and are capable of shutting off a plant\'s iron uptake response. How they do this is my interest; how they sense iron, how they relay that signal, and how this could ultimately be exploited to improve nutrient uptake in crops.

ABOUT JACOB PULLIN
I am a researcher with a decade\'s experience investigating the biochemistry of iron proteins, including ferritins, peroxidases, and iron-sensing ubiquitin ligases. Since 2024, my vision has been to address iron deficiency through food, applying my understanding of iron metabolism in plants to make high iron varieties of crop species. The first iteration of this is a high iron pea, which could have a broad range of applications as a fortifying food ingredient.
