ABOUT JACOB JUNIOR
Originally from Australia, I moved to London and joined Kier Group as a graduate in 2017. I worked within Kier Highways, running core services across two Local Highways Contracts at peak, before transferring internally in 2020 to Kier’s JV with Eiffage, Ferrovial and BAM (EKFB) on the £50bn HS2 project, where I spent four years. In 2025, I undertook a secondment with Kier Design before moving into Kier’s Property Development arm in 2026 as a Project Manager. At EKFB, I progressed from Site Engineer to Sub Agent, taking responsibility for over 10 permanent assets across a 3km section of the HS2 trace. These included a critical road overbridge, major low-permeability wall, culverts, water trunk main and high-voltage overhead line diversions, as well as major temporary works and complex enabling works. I also led planning for a section footbridge and an Environment Agency monitored river diversion, before transferring into a civil engineering design secondment with Kier Design. At peak, I managed teams of up to 7 engineers and over 170 operatives, spanning self-delivery and multiple subcontractors. I led the construction of a major temporary works mass haul bridge, which was nominated and shortlisted at the C23 Awards, and later reached the finalist stage at the British Construction Industry (now titled British Construction & Infrastructure) Awards 2024, where I presented to the judging panel alongside the lead designer.I have completed the Kier Raising Leaders Programme (Cohort 8) and hold a Level 3 Leadership and Management Apprenticeship (Diploma) with the Chartered Management Institute, achieving a distinction. I was nominated for the Kier Rising Star Award and Kier Graduate of the Year Award in 2018.Academically, an extract of my thesis was published in 2021, with a journal article published in 2018. I was also awarded the Concrete Institute of Australia Rising Star Award in 2016 for my final-year project. My undergraduate placements included Frasers Property Australia on the award-winning $2bn Central Park mixed-use development in Sydney (2016), and David Wills and Associates, a civil engineering consultancy in Perth, during the summers of 2014 and 2015.Outside of civil engineering, I co-founded Alphatech Custom PC in 2014 while studying full-time at Curtin University, providing bespoke desktop PC builds and computer hardware sales.
