About Jacob Hyman
Since moving to Colorado in August of 2014, I have been an integral member of three behavioral health teams - at Denver Green School, Creative Treatment Options, and currently in Veteran Recovery and Rehousing Services at the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. In a short time, I\'ve worn many hats: Program Manager, program developer, evaluator, counselor, teacher, team-member, case manager, intake clinician, administrator, and program coordinator. The versatility and adaptability required to be an effective social worker in many different venues is my favorite part of my chosen profession.My firm foundation in counseling and \"micro\" social work practice, as well as community-level and macro-level work, have prepared me to approach issues and policy around education, healthcare, substance abuse recovery, and poverty. I believe strongly in the ability of advocates and organizers to help individuals unlock and realize their potential, especially in the areas of concentrated poverty and within various societal institutions. As a school social worker and substance abuse counselor these past two years, I learned and grown a great deal in my knowledge of interacting with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults on a therapeutic level. What\'s more, the on-the-ground experience I gained with individuals has led me to a passion to approaching issues from an inside-out and bottom-up approach, as well as a top-down one. Implementation is important, but strong planning can set the stage for success on all levels of social work practice.
