SicklED is a research group at Lehigh University aiming to create a context-specific, point-of-care sickle cell disease diagnostics device for Sierra Leone. We are currently developing an effective lateral flow immunoassay to diagnose those with sickle cell disease trait.Our long term goal is to implement this technology in low and middle income countries, starting in Sierra Leone, in order to decrease the high infant mortality rate in the Sub-Saharan region of the world. Furthermore, we are working with national policy-makers, advocacy groups, and medical institutions to create an end-to-end system for wholistic patient care and management by developing CMEs, SOPs, and general outreach materials.
