Reviewing and challenging 1st Line’s management of exposure to all types of insurance risks, e.g. longevity, mortality, lapses, expenses, morbidity, including the approach to risk identification and measuring risk impacts. Ensuring that 1st Line are managing these risks in accordance with stated policies and risk appetite measures.Involved in researching initiatives and change that helps to mitigate insurance risk.Provide Risk’s independent opinion of the risk exposure, helping to advise the business on how best to manage and mitigate these exposures.Reporting and assessment of emerging insurance risks.Review of actuarial and pricing work within the business, including the insurance and financial risk aspects of new propositions, distributions deals and pricing strategies. Ensuring that deals and pricing follow the correct governance, including all set requirements and frameworks.Second line role taking a leading position in the Risk challenge to the 1st line management of insurance risks, reporting to the Head of Insurance and Operational Risk Oversight with regular CRO contact. Main areas of management- All types of insurance risks, with exposure to investment risks- Pricing and deal frameworks- Internal model validation, providing technical expertise in relation to 2nd line oversight of insurance risk calibrations- Risk appetite, reviewing modelled information and challenge whether it is correctly and appropriately represented in risk MI, suggesting and ensuring implementation of improvements- Risk reviews, technical input and support to the other 2nd line risk teams for their conduct of risk reviews- Insurance Risk Committee, attending meetings and providing challenge on risk-related issues- Risk Strategy and Implementation, ensure business manages all types of insurance risk within agreed statements of risk appetite

Graduated from the Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit (RAU)(Johannesburg, South Africa) in November 1997 with a BSc in Actuarial Science. After starting actuarial work with a leading South African pension consulting firm in 1998, decided to move to the UK in 2002. Qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 2008. Joined Hewitt in February 2002. During eight years\' service with Hewitt, in addition to providing advice to clients, have various roles including operations manager for the whole office and team leader for one of the two actuarial supporting teams.
