About Jaclyn Sopcic
What is your perception of the justice system? My dad is my hero. He retired in 2007 after dedicating 33 years of his life as a peace officer with the mindset “Do the Right Thing”. My perception of police officers is unique to me. I enjoy(ed) a good argument and wanted to honor my dad so I became a prosecutor. After ten years in prosecution, I’m starting to question the polarized and divisive nature of the justice system. The justice system is set up to make a choice between two options with no flexibility: guilty or not guilty. Right or wrong. Black or white. Republican or Democrat. Why? Is the current justice system working? If not, what can we do differently? How do we mix the two colors to embrace the gray? I have a few ideas. I’d like to learn more first, so let’s talk!
