WORK HISTORY
Rl Research Intern @Brain Tool Laboratory
Duke, NC, US
Conducting applied AI research focusing on reinforcement learning for surgical robotics. I work with LapGym, an open-source simulation platform for laparoscopic surgery, integrating Stable-Baselines3 to train agents in tasks like cutting and precision tool control. My contributions include optimizing training pipelines, benchmarking RL algorithms in complex surgical scenarios, and enhancing the simulator\'s performance on high impact tasks.
EDUCATION
Bowdoin College
Bachelor of Arts
ABOUT JACKSON CODD
My hobbies include coding, surfing, and playing tennis. I’m studying Computer Science and Physics at Bowdoin College, balancing school, varsity sports, and side projects that blend AI, robotics, and the real world. Right now, I’m interning at Duke’s Brain Tool Lab, using reinforcement learning to teach a surgical robot how to perform surgical tasks like cutting and tool manipulation. When I’m not at the lab, I’m building tools like Hozie: a memory-driven AI assistant that learns through conversation, constantly updates its knowledge base, and has an approachable personality that sounds less corporate than ChatGPT. When I’m not in front of a screen, you’ll find me surfing at dawn, playing tennis, or working out. This fall, I’m heading to Santiago, Chile, to study CS in Spanish, explore the natural wonders of South America, and dive into a new culture. If you’re working on something cool in AI or robotics, let’s chat!
