ABOUT JACK SOMERS
Former Marine Corps Captain and national advocate for epilepsy, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and neurodegenerative conditions, I bring both lived experience and leadership to advancing research, policy, and innovation in neurological health. After living with uncontrolled seizures and undergoing brain surgery that left lasting neurological challenges, I have transformed my journey into a platform to drive meaningful change in science, technology, and patient care.In 2025, I advised and spoke in more than 30 Capitol Hill meetings, helping reintroduce the National Plan for Epilepsy to Congress. I was also honored to be a guest speaker at CURE Epilepsy’s Annual Gala, where I shared my story to inspire greater awareness and funding for research. My passions lie in highlighting lived experience to drive both technology innovation and treatment planning for those affected by epilepsy, PTE, TBI, and neurocognitive dysfunction. I am equally committed to providing relief and support for caregivers, families, and friends, who are too often overlooked in the care journey.I’ve been featured in major media and thought leadership platforms, including:ABC Chicago NewsWashington D.C./ DMV NewsSharecareNational Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM)A More Perfect UnionPodcasts and digital platforms including “What the EF” and othersMy specific interests include:Advancing research methods and biomarker discovery in epilepsy and post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE).Building sustainable funding models for translational neuroscience and health innovation.Shaping technology and care solutions that improve outcomes for both patients and caregivers.I also advise neurotechnology and health startups, focusing on solutions that bridge patient needs with innovation. My goal is to ensure that research and technology translate not only into improved outcomes for individuals, but also into a stronger quality of life for the families and communities around them.
