About Jack Santoro
I am a recent graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, having earned a Bachelor\'s of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering, in addition to earning a Master\'s of Science in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing. During my time as an undergraduate student at Stevens, I have been a part of several design projects and assisted in thymus tissue engineering research focused on optimizing near field printing techniques for the development of PCL-collagen scaffold designs.During my senior year, I had the privilege of working alongside my senior design team to design a wearable lower body exosuit for patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type to be used for assistance with sit-to-stand (STS) motion. The project was sponsored by the By the time of the Stevens Innovation Expo, the team was ultimately able to develop a novel finite state mechanism which preloaded a torsional spring with two cables as the wearer sat down, further deflected this spring with a motor while the user was seated, and released this energy into the cables at the moment of peak knee force requirement in the STS gait cycle. By following this pathway, the cables are capable of behaving like an additional leg muscle. Our project was recognized during the Stevens Ansary Entrepreneurship Competition finals, in which the team was named among the top six projects out of over 225 senior design projects across all departments.My academic interests have centered around medical devices and pharmaceutical health care. An ideal career would be one where an engineering background could be used to help combat cancer and other diseases by applying processes towards the development of medical and pharmaceutical technology.
