Threshold is the residential institution for the most original inventors before they are founders: those driven by creative obsession — before the start-up system tells them who to be. We are the crossing that draws out deep purpose in those at the frontier — we build the self, before it builds the world. Rooted in the anthropology of transformation and set within a remote residential environment, Threshold brings together the most technically exceptional people at the moment before they know what they will build — and creates the conditions in which that question can be answered honestly. Not an accelerator. Not an incubator. An institution that takes seriously the idea that the quality of who builds the future determines the quality of the future itself. Too many of the most exceptional people of their generation are going through the motions of generic success — the grad scheme, the PhD, the safe path — when something in them knows they are built for more. Threshold is the challenge to take the a step on to a different plane. We select without demographic constraint from technical departments across the UK and internationally — undergraduates through to industry researchers — and hold them in a twelve-week residential programme designed around one thing: the emergence of a person who is fully the author of their own reality. Someone who has moved through uncertainty and come out the other side with the kind of conviction that cannot be installed from the outside, only discovered from within.
