As Chair of the Communication Arts, Languages and Literature (CALL) Department at WCU, I provide leadership and vision to students and colleagues. INSPIRATIONAL Being a Department Chair involves great responsibility. As a leader for this department since 2019, I provide decision-making, goal-setting, vision-setting, and prioritization of the department’s needs. Not only do I oversee the purchase, care, upkeep, and usage of the department’s video and audio production equipment, but I also manage the various department facilities (studios, labs, theater, etc.) and the department’s annual operating budget of more than $53K. I also facilitate and supervise program reviews and discipline assessments for CALL’s multiple undergraduate majors and minors in Communication Arts, Creative Writing, Diversity in the Humanities, English, Film, Philosophy, Spanish, and Theatre. Additionally, I supervise twenty-six colleagues, including professors, instructors, and administrative staff. I develop and implement the students’ work-study contracts for office, technical, and creative positions as well as provide mentorship and conflict resolution. I strive to challenge students academically in a responsive environment, so they meet their educational, career, and personal goals. I promote excellence in scholarly and service activities consistent with academic and professional strengths. ABOUT JACK LUCIDO

If you try to create something that everybody can relate to, you’re gonna make something that nobody can relate to.” - Barry Jenkins MULTIFACETED The world of film infused my blood since early in my childhood. In 4th grade, I started making super 8 films, and I never stopped. To this day, storytelling is my passion. I’m the youngest of nine children (Yep! That’s 11 people at home!). Since I was young, I loved film and theater, so I studied these arts in college, obtaining my bachelor’s in film and theater. For seventeen years, I worked in the film and television industries in Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, after which I pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree. With my extensive practical background, I started teaching film production and media theory courses. I became an expert in helping people get rid of their insecurities. I’m a problem-solver, and I use innovative, thoughtful, resilient, and sensitive narrative solutions to help people work through their challenges. I instill confidence in people and build them up, so they have the courage to collaborate with others in amazing projects. I thrive in a production studio as much as I do in a classroom. I really enjoy serving students and seeing them thrive. I take great pride in helping junior faculty colleagues succeed and be fruitful contributors to the students. Designing my own courses with autonomy is thrilling and invigorating, and it’s kept me young and engaged over the years. Because I’m a storyteller by heart, I’m always inspired by a good story. Helping companies and executives tell their stories to achieve business outcomes, while mentoring their early-career talent to build their multi-media skillsets brings me a great deal of satisfaction. I promote positive public discourse. In my documentary work, I focus on educating and having meaningful conversations regardless of ages, political affiliations, or challenging topics. Our country is divided, and I am working to help us talk and truly listen to each other with respect. j•••••••@gmail.com (97••••••08 Documentary Filmmaking | Video/Audio Production & Editing | Business Administration | Story-telling, Narrative Talent | Creative Writing | Multi-cultural & Cross-cultural Communications | Media Content Creation | Social Media Marketing | Audience Understanding | Brand Mgmt.| A/V Equipment Operation | Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI)| Change Mgmt.| Process/Performance Improvement | Higher Education | Curriculum Development | Public Speaking | Photography | Project Management | Mentor | Team Builder
