Over the summer holidays, I’m working full-time as a Finance Assistant at YMCA Robin Hood Group in Nottingham, gaining hands-on experience within an extremely busy finance department as we work to incorporate a new finance system into the business. My responsibilities span a range of core accounting tasks, including cleansing supplier data, working within and tweaking balance sheets, assisting with profit and loss accounts for month end reporting, and producing nominal reports. I’ve also been involved in matching invoices to payments for nursery operations, mapping payroll data, managing rent schedules, and supporting trial balance reconciliations.This role has given me valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of a finance team and has allowed me to apply key concepts from my degree in a practical setting. It’s strengthened my attention to detail, Excel and reporting skills, and my understanding of financial processes within a large charitable organisation, all of which are excellent foundations for a future career in accounting and finance after university.
