Over the course of my summer internship at Blue Point Capital, I dove headfirst into every facet of the investment process, building a strong foundation in deal sourcing, underwriting, and portfolio management. I collaborated with senior deal teams on strategic review sessions for underperforming portfolio companies, where I mapped out operational pain points, benchmarked against industry best practices, and helped formulate pragmatic turnaround plans. My analyses drove discussions on everything from cost optimization and process redesign to leadership realignment and customer‑retention strategies.On the sourcing side, I conducted deep‑dive market research to unearth high‑potential middle‑market targets that fit Blue Point’s thematic “buy‑and‑build” playbook. Leveraging financial databases and primary interviews with industry experts, I created a proprietary scoring model in Excel to rank targets by strategic fit, growth runway, and margin‑expansion opportunity. Those insights directly informed our weekly pipeline review and sharpened our pursuit of niche platforms in healthcare services and specialty manufacturing.I also took an active role in due diligence and underwriting. By constructing detailed three‑statement models, break‑even analyses, and scenario‑based sensitivity tests, I quantified value drivers under diverse operating environments. I presented my findings in polished investment memos—integrating market sizing, competitive positioning, and EBITDA‑expansion cases—to guide partners in their “go/no‑go” decisions. During management meetings and founder pitches, I asked targeted questions on business models and growth strategies, gaining firsthand exposure to the art of persuasive storytelling and deal negotiation.
