Mr. Benfield’s cases often include violations of state and federal commercial trucking, healthcare, and Medicare regulations. Mr. Benfield received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and J.D from the University of Memphis. After graduating law school with honors, Mr. Benfield was one of few people nationwide to be accepted to the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Benfield served as a US Navy Command Advisor and criminal prosecutor where he provided Naval regulatory advice to military commands and prosecuted felony court martials of complex narcotic distribution rings, financial crimes, kidnapping, child sex abuse, and aggravated rape. Mr. Benfield was subsequently appointed as in-house counsel for Naval Medical Center-Portsmouth, one of the largest military hospitals in the world. Here, Mr. Benfield led federal investigations on regulatory compliance, contracts, allegations of medical negligence, and served as a top level legal liaison between federal investigators and Navy members receiving inpatient medical care a result of the terrorist attack on the USS Cole. Mr. Benfield was also selectively appointed to conduct instrumental training to several US Navy commands. In addition to receiving numerous distinguished military awards, Mr. Benfield was honorably discharged with distinction. He entered private practice in 2001. Since 2001, Mr. Benfield has successfully represented clients severely injured by negligence of trucking companies, hospitals, physicians, and nursing homes. Mr. Benfield’s vast expertise in these areas of practice is well known and has led to tens of millions of dollars in compensation for his clients.
