About J. Houston Yang
Houston graduated from Emerson College and moved to Los Angeles with a goal of breaking into action filmmaking. A director with a background in editing and cinematography, his talents were quickly snatched up by the trailer editing and marketing world. Five years later, Houston had not only excelled as a trailer editor serving every major studio, but had created a freelance niche for himself. Working as a personal editor for top Hollywood directors and actors, Houston experienced first-hand the inner workings responsible for top flight filmmaking. His five years inside the marketing world creating targeted commercials for every major digital distributor afforded him an intimate view of the changing tides of digital storytelling and online consumption behaviors. Ever the filmmaker, he combined these lessons when he created a proof-of-concept short film to pitch a ‘mobile first’ show format. Reaching out to his network of clientele, a meeting was set for him and STX Chief Creative Officer, Jason Goldberg, who found the pitch so compelling that he offered him a job at STX as a Producer, developing and creating shows and formats for the road ahead.
