About Ivan Pupulidy
Ivan is an international speaker and consultant focused on Risk, Safety, aviation, Wildland Firefighting and Human and Organizational Performance (HOP). Ivan’s ability to integrate academic research with real world application comes from his varied life experiences, which culminated in his promotion to the position of Director of the Office of Innovation and Organizational Learning for the USFS.As a U.S. Forest Service Director, Ivan developed and implemented the Learning Review, which is a process designed to improve how large and small organizations respond to accidents and incidents. The Learning Review is centered on understanding and mapping systemic conditions that influence human actions (check out TEDx Talk ). He has represented the US Forest Service to the Obama Whitehouse, where he presented Learning Review and HOP concepts during a forum on wildland firefighter safety. Ivan holds an Airline Transport Pilot License and has accrued over flight hours as a tactical aircraft pilot for the US Coast Guard, US Air Force Reserve and the US Forest Service. Ivan has been a qualified as a US Coast Guard Maintenance Officer, and USAF accident investigator (trained to the level of Board President). Ivan earned a Master of Science degree in Human Factors and Systems Safety at Lund University, Sweden, under Professor Sidney Dekker. He completed his PhD in social psychology and organizational culture at Tilburg University, Netherlands. He now brings his academic credentials and real-world experiences to the University of Alabama as a Professor and as a guest lecturer at Yale University.
