About Ivan L
Transportation safety isn’t just my career, it’s my personality disorder. It started at Tesla, where I became the person who couldn’t stop thinking about how to keep people from hurting themselves on the road. Spoiler: I never stopped. These days I work in traffic engineering, which means I get paid to be annoyed at bottlenecks professionally. My background covers traffic data collection, probe data analysis, speed studies, warrant support, concurrency tracking, as-built inspections, and AutoCAD work for roadway enhancements. Basically, if there’s a problem on a road somewhere, I’ve probably stared at a spreadsheet, reviewed the numbers and watched video footage about it at 6am. I genuinely love combining field work with data to find solutions that make roads safer, less congested, and just… smarter. Unnecessary traffic doesn’t just bother me it haunts me.I also am Part 107 certified pilot with flight hours in the last 2 years. I’ve supported search and rescue missions and helped first responders during national emergencies which is somehow even cooler than it sounds. I trained at New Mexico Tech and received specialized instruction through a three-letter agency, which sharpened my skills in operations, tracking, and public safety support. So whether I’m crunching traffic data or flying down in the middle of what can only be described as a live GTA lobby because it’s Florida and that’s just Tuesday the mission is always the same: safer roads, smarter systems, and making sure the chaos has at least a little bit of order to it.
Experience
Traffic Engineer Tech
Sep 2022 — Present · US
I have experience using AutoCAD to prepare roadway enhancement drawings and support traffic engineering projects. My work also includes analyzing probe data, conducting speed studies to identify speeding issues, and helping local law enforcement prioritize enforcement locations. I perform traffic surveys and collect field data for new or revised speed limits, passing zones, and traffic signal evaluations. In addition, I conduct as built inspections to verify that traffic and roadway improvements are installed according to approved plans and specifications. I maintain databases for traffic study locations, concurrency reviews, and special requests, and I assist with determining whether traffic warrants are met for new signs and signals, as well as evaluating transportation impact fees for proposed developments.Beyond the roadway, I bring a unique perspective as an FAA Part 107 certified pilot with over 500 flight hours. When emergencies strike, I step in to support local agencies with damage assessment and search and rescue operations.
