About Ivan J. Ramirez
I am a geographer based in Colorado. My scholarship focuses on the intersections of climate change, urban health, and community engagement. As an avid climate, health, and society researcher, I strive to understand how communities interact with the many facets of climate and how those interactions influence the health and social vulnerability of populations and places. I also seek to understand how public health and communities respond to and cope with weather, water, and climate-related extremes. Importantly, I care deeply about justice implications and equitable capacity building solutions. I have extensive teaching experience (13 years) as well as experience with capacity building and community engagement projects. Currently I am a faculty member in the Department of Health and Behavioral Sciences (HBS) at the University of Colorado, Denver (CU Denver). I also taught courses in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, CU Denver. Before relocating to Colorado, I was an Assistant Professor of Environmental Health at Eugene Lang College, The New School University, in NYC, where I taught urban health, interdisciplinary epidemiology/global health, climate, society, and justice courses.
