About Marwan Shalih
My decision to become a STEM research scientist is driven by the long-term goal of understanding how epigenetic regulation and genetic variations affect transcriptome and proteome profiles and differentially control the interplay of complex key molecular pathways in a diseased state, thereby discovering novel biomarkers and therapeutic solutions for the current and emerging baffling problems in the field of neuroscience. My current research project focuses on elucidating the epigenetic mechanisms behind the BHMT-TET1 Axis and its role in Multiple Sclerosis using Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis Mouse Models and Coherent Anti-stokes Raman Scattering Microscopy. My preparation to achieve this objective has evolved through exposure to a wide range of cell biology and molecular genetics courses, techniques, and research experience. I am currently a fully funded doctoral student researcher at Dr. McDonough Lab and teaching assistant at Kent State University, Ohio, USA.
