Production Engineers (PEs) at Meta are hybrid software and systems engineers responsible for building and scaling the infrastructure that supports Meta’s global products. This role bridges development and operations, ensuring that Meta’s services from Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram to Ads, AI platforms, and backend systems remain fast, reliable, and resilient at planetary scale. PEs own a wide range of systems: backend services managing Meta’s server fleet, front-end user-facing platforms, networking components, and foundational infrastructure like the world’s largest MySQL deployments. PEs write and review code, design scalable architectures, build automation, respond to real-time incidents, and partner across teams to improve performance and capacity. The PE mission is to ensure production excellence through engineering. This means solving reliability challenges, eliminating toil, and enabling teams to move fast without breaking things, all while operating some of the most complex distributed systems in the world.
