ABOUT ISABEL RICHARDS
My experience spans the entrepreneurial and corporate worlds and has focussed on leadership roles at the interface of business and Technology. In the current chapter of my career I’m broadening and deepening on the topic of responsible AI: I am establishing a new Product function at Faculty, to support consequential applications of AI within government contexts; I am pursuing a new Masters degree in AI, Ethics and Society at the University of Cambridge, run by the Leverhulme Institute for the Future of Intelligence; and I am supporting AI start-ups with an ethical approach to their business models as part of the Digital Catapult Ethics Committee. In my last chapter I brought a start-up, commercial perspective to the major technology innovator, Ocado, where I held a number of broad senior leadership roles. These included establishing creative ways to trial new technology, running Product Management - for which I was awarded the ‘Rising Star’ award at the Computing Magazine Women in IT Excellence Awards 2018 - and lastly leading operational and organisational elements of the business as Head of UK Development Centres. I’m particularly good at communicating with a broad range of people and navigating the network of sensitivities that exist in complex organisations; I have a knack for quickly processing complicated situations, distilling the important elements and finding simple ways to conceptualise and communicate the issues.
