ABOUT ISABELLE CONNOR

Isabelle (Izzy) Connor is a senior Physics (Astrophysics) student at UC Santa Cruz and a Lamat Fellow, specializing in computational astrophysical fluid dynamics and high-energy astrophysical phenomena. She is currently conducting research on supernova-driven turbulence using 3D hydrodynamical simulations, advised by Dr. Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz (UCSC) and Dr. James Beattie (Princeton/Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics). She previously worked on Tidal Disruption Events and AGN.Outside of academia, she is UC Santa Cruz’s first Olympian, competing for Team USA in group rhythmic gymnastics around the world for over 15 years. Her background in elite athletics shaped her perseverance, leadership, and problem-solving skills— qualities she now applies to astrophysical research. She is also an active mental health advocate committed to driving positive change, working to promote athlete well-being, resilience, and a healthier approach to high-performance culture in both sports and STEM.Skills: Python, Bash, HPC, Latex, Linux, hydrodynamic simulations, data visualization/analysis/processing, public speaking, science communication.
