As a research assistant, I support multiple NIH-funded, multi-site clinical studies on COPD, including SPIROMICS the SPIROMICS II Exacerbation Substudy, and the SOURCE Bronchoscopy Substudy. I specialize in biospecimen and sputum processing, handling blood, urine, nasal swabs, and induced sputum following rigorous protocol standards.My responsibilities include:Processing sputum samples for downstream analyses such as mucin profiling, cytokine quantification, transcriptomics, and microbiome studiesAliquoting and storing serum, plasma, and urine using precise cold-chain and barcoded labeling systemsMaintaining accurate sample logs, temperature records, and strict biosafety compliance within a CLIA-certified lab.In addition to lab work, I assist with participant follow-up by making phone calls, taking vital signs, administering spirometry, and guiding patients through intake questionnaires.This role integrates clinical interaction with translational research, expanding my skills in patient care, biospecimen management, and pulmonary disease research.
