About Isabella Butell

I’m a fourth-year student at the University of Florida, majoring in Public Relations with a minor in European Union Studies and certificates in International Communications and Legal History. My goal is to attend law school and pursue a career in international law, driven by my deep passion for foreign policy and global issues.I’ve had the opportunity to study abroad in Salzburg, Austria, where I focused on European integration, the European Union and European history. I also had the privilege of shadowing at the UN office in Vienna, gaining firsthand exposure to international diplomacy and the complexities of global governance. These experiences, along with my coursework, have shaped my perspective on how international law influences policy and fosters cross-border cooperation.In addition to my academic pursuits, I’m involved in several leadership roles and volunteer efforts. I serve as the Vice President of March of Dimes at UF, where I help support new mothers and infants born prematurely through fundraising and educational initiatives. I also work with the First Generation Lawyers as the Assistant Director of Public Relations, where I help equip future lawyers with the skills to succeed. My extracurricular experiences have helped me develop strong skills in leadership, public relations, event planning, social media strategy, and communication. I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse teams in various capacities, from social media management to personnel oversight, and these roles have pushed me to grow as a collaborator, innovator, and problem-solver. Outside of school and work, I enjoy traveling, learning about different cultures, and volunteering with foster children, where I’ve learned the value of empathy, patience, and giving back to my community.I’m excited to continue building on these experiences and developing the skills necessary to pursue my passion for international law and public service.

   As an Undergraduate Research Assistant, I work alongside UF research faculty on research focused on understanding communication processes and their effects on public perception. My work involves conducting literature reviews on topics involving political communication, media trust and distrust, message effectiveness, and journalists\' roles. I utilize data analysis software to interpret and evaluate data, contributing to the development of research findings and insights. Additionally, I collaborate closely with faculty to present and discuss results in weekly lab meetings, helping advance studies that explore the relationship between media coverage, messaging strategies, and public opinion formation.
