About Isabella Contreras

I am currently in my fourth year of a five-year program, expecting to graduate in May 2026. As part of the International Engineering Program at URI, I will earn two bachelor\'s degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Spanish. Next year in Spain, I will spend a semester at a university and complete a six-month internship. In the summer of 2024 I interned at Medtronic within their Structural Heart Operating Unit. As an R&D Engineering Intern, I contributed to a Phase 0 project, focusing primarily on data analysis to further the teams understanding of migration and cleat engagement. I am eager to gain further experience in medical devices through another internship, particularly in areas related to electrical and software engineering as that is the skillset my curriculum has built. On campus, I am active in organizations such as (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), SWE (Society of Women Engineers), WEM (Women in Engineering Mentors), and EMBS (Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society). Currently, I serve as the Chair of where I facilitate meetings that enhance undergraduate learning through projects, professional development, and study sessions. As the Vice President of SWE, I help organize meetings and events focused on personal and professional growth for our members. Additionally, as both a mentor and former mentee in the Women in Engineering mentoring program, I have built lasting friendships and engaged in a supportive community for women navigating a male-dominated field. I also have experience as a physics tutor and receptionist at the Academic Enhancement Center. This upcoming summer I will return to Medtronic at their North Haven working with a supplier quality team.
