About Isabel Abdai
I am an award-winning editorial and brand designer with an extensive background in art direction, print design, and production across leading lifestyle brands and publications. Known for conceptually strong, typographically rich design that brings clarity, beauty, and narrative depth to every project. Collaborative, detail-oriented, and solution-focused, I’m always up for any creative challenge.Most recently, I served as Design Director at Woman’s Day and Prevention magazines, working alongside two small (but mighty!) teams of talented creatives. Prior to that, I was Senior Associate Art Director at Martha Stewart Living. In addition to my editorial work, I’ve built strong design and project management experience through roles at studios in New York and Calgary, Canada.My work has been recognized by the Society of Publication Designers, AR100, and Communication Arts, and in 2008, I was honored to appear in UPPERCASE magazine’s Work/Life directory as a featured Art Director.When I’m not at my desk or on set, you’ll likely find me baking in my tiny kitchen, recharging on a long walk, or deep into the latest cult documentary or true crime series. I’m endlessly inspired by color, form, nature, and the unexpected moments you stumble upon when you least expect them. I live in Turtle Bay with my two rescue cats, Finn and Loïe, who kindly allow me to share their apartment.

Ongoing part-time freelance art direction and design support for a quarterly culinary publication, including layout systems, cover design, production prep, and file delivery. Responsible for preparing press-ready documents and coordinating directly with the printer. Project based and fully flexible alongside full-time commitments.
