ABOUT ISABEL GONZALEZ

Hi! My name is Isabel Gonzalez, and I am in my third year of Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Digital Engineering at the University of Calgary. My program emphasizes on applying aspects of software, electrical, and mechanical engineering towards developing healthcare solutions and furthering biomedical research. I am actively searching for a 12-16 month Co-op/Internship opportunity with a May 2026 start date in BME and related fields! I recently completed a Summer Research Studentship at the BCI4KIDS lab, working within UCalgary\'s Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Alberta Children\'s Hospital. I worked on the project, “BCI-BIDS: Developing a New Open Science Framework to Build Better Pediatric Brain Computer Interface Databases.” This collaborative and interdisciplinary research explored the expansion of current frameworks for brain-data storage and reproducibility, and allowed me to gain hands-on experience in programming, system development, EEG signals, and basic neuroscience. Currently, I am working on a new research project with BCI4KIDS. My research aims to redesign EEG electrodes for BCIs, expanding my skills in CAD, soldering and PCB design, to create comfortable, inclusive electrodes. I am also an active member of the student-led team, BMERIT. We are developing a nano-sensor for Alzheimer\'s disease detection and preparing to compete at BIOMOD, a biomolecular design competition in China! Beyond this, I bring project and event management experience, leadership, collaboration skills, and excellent communication through years of extracurricular involvement, and roles in both the Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Students\' Societies. I am passionate about pediatric- focused research, software, electrical, and cellular engineering solutions for health, public speaking, and project management. I am eager to continue developing my skills in biomedical engineering while creating a positive impact through research and industry applications!
