About Isabel Leong

I am a passionate and driven Honors student in the School of International Service (SIS) at American University working towards a BA in International Studies, with a focus on Foreign Policy and National Security, and a Spanish minor and Translation Certificate. My academic and research interests include military logistics, intelligence, illicit financing, transnational criminal organizations, national security, and defense issues.I am working as an International Trade Intern with the U.S. Commercial Service, the exporting arm of the International Trade Administration for the Department of Commerce. Previously, I was a research intern at the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies, a regional research center for the Department of Defense, where I refined my research skills on security issues in Latin America.At American University, I am involved in a number of on-campus organizations, including American University International Relations Society’s branch Ask-A-Diplomat and Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity. I was an Olson Scholar as a second-year student in SIS and conducted research on gender-based violence and femicides in Mexico. I am an SIS Honors student and will be conducting a year-long honors thesis project.
