About Isaac Borenstein

Judge Borenstein (ret.) immigrated to the United States in 1961 from La Habana, Cuba.Member of the Florida Bar (1976) and the Massachusetts Bar (1979). Fluent in Spanish and English. Highly regarded as a Judge, Law Professor, Mediator/Arbitrator and Attorney. Academic year 2021-22 taught a section at BU School of Law, of first year Torts, Intro to American Law for international LLM students, Remedies and Critical Civil Procedure. Voted best part time teacher by 2022 graduates. in 2022-23 will be Lecturer in Law again at BU, teaching Civil Procedure, Intro to Criminal Law and Intro to American Law both to LLM international law students, as well as Evidence and Criminal Procedure. Taught Evidence as Lecturer of Law at BU Law School Fall 2019. During 2018-19 he was an Adjunct Professor at Brooklyn Law School, teaching Evidence in the fall and Criminal Procedure in the spring. Voted Faculty Member of the Year, LALSA (Latino/a law students) awarded him a mentor award. For years taught first as an Adjunct Professor and then several years as a full time Visiting Lecturer and Visiting Professor at Suffolk Law School, Boston; From 1985 until 2014 was part time Lecturer and one year as full time Visiting Professor at Northeastern University while on leave from the Mass. Superior Court. He received 10 awards from graduating classes for teaching excellence at Suffolk and Northeastern. During his 22 years as a Judge received much recognition for his service. Left the bench in September, 2008 and since has been an active mediator and arbitrator at The Mediation Group (TMG), Brookline, MA; from 2010 to the present has been of Counsel to Kajko, Weisman and Colasanti, LLP, in Lexington, MA; has tried jury and jury waived criminal and civil cases in state and federal court and argued several appeals at the Massachusetts Appeals Court. In 1986, Gov. Michael S. Dukakis appointed Judge Borenstein to the Lawrence District Court where he presided over more than 100 jury and bench trials involving criminal and civil matters, juvenile delinquency, the care, custody and protection of children. In 1992, Gov. William F. Weld appointed him Associate Justice of the Superior Court, where Judge Borenstein presided over more than 300 jury trials and 100 jury-waived trials, as well as hundreds of pre and post trial motions. As a Judge he regularly handled the most complex civil and criminal matters.
