ABOUT IRINI EIRINI DASKALAKI
After two decades as a hospital-based pediatric infectious disease physician, I joined Princeton University in the inaugural role of Global and Community Health Physician. In addition to providing clinical care for the students, I am responsible for developing outbreak surveillance systems, establishing infection prevention protocols, overseeing the travel health program, and formulating immunization policy. During the pandemic, as the Medical Lead of the University\'s COVID-19 response, I advised senior leadership on risk mitigation efforts, led the public health efforts for contact tracing, created population screening testing protocols, educated the campus community, helped establish a new clinical lab on campus, and was the CMO of Princeton\'s vaccination center administering over doses of vaccine to the campus and surrounding community. It has been rewarding to apply accumulated clinical knowledge and experience to formulating public health policy for a university that focuses on diversity and inclusion and centers healthcare equity in its approach. My wide-ranging experiences, from hospital based peds ID consultant, to medical epidemiologist and university health leader, afford me a unique perspective on communication, education and policy making, whether during crises with imminent goals or trying to effect durable behavior change.
