I am a Principal with KPMG LLP’s Trade and Customs Practice in New York and have more than 16 years of experience in the import and export field. Prior to joining KPMG, I spent several years as a customs and international trade attorney. More specifically, I have experience evaluating a company’s import and export operations and assisting companies with the maintenance of their regulatory compliance. I have worked with companies to increase their duty savings, reduce compliance violations, implement tariff classification projects, and submit prior disclosures and successful ruling requests to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. In addition, I have experience with special trade programs, country of origin marking, first sale implementations, and export compliance processes and systems. I have worked with a range of industries including chemical, pharmaceutical, electronics, software and technology, food and beverage, and retail and apparel. Most recent experience- Conducting global import/export risk assessment reviews in Asia, N. America and the EU which involve an analysis of the processes, people, internal controls and technology utilized to support the trade function- Assisting with global process improvements and strategic planning including the development of a roadmap of improvement and savings opportunities, global and/or regional policies and procedures, and training modules- Assisting with the implementation of cost savings initiatives including, but not limited to, first sale for export, foreign trade zones, free trade agreements, process efficiencies, duty drawback, self-filing and broker consolidation- Assisting companies to determine the best placement for the trade compliance function within the organization and whether the right resources are dedicated to import / export operations - Leading large scale classification projects for clients in numerous industries - Conducting U.S. and global customs valuation reviews
