ABOUT INSU LEE

My name is Insu Lee and I have received my Ph.D degree from the University of Michigan studying in a non-reacting and reacting confined turbulent jet to facilitate homogeneous combustion (Similar to HCCI) recently. I am eager to contribute to the industry world, specifically aiming for advanced thermal and fluid experimental/modeling technology which link with my industrial experience prior to joining academia. I was fortunate to have experiences working at two different automotive companies in South Korea. I have acquired practical experience in NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) work and combustion. While working at Mando Corporation, one of the leading automotive parts development companies in Korea, I took part in improving steering characteristics such as vibration and noise in test cars. I also supported the development of electric power steering, which uses an electric motor instead of a hydraulic steering pump, thus reducing the weight of the steering system and engine load and improving fuel efficiency. Subsequently, I worked at Renault Samsung Motor Corporation, the leading motor company in Korea, where I developed engine power performance, drivability, and emissions. I was particularly interested in how diesel engines can reduce NOx and soot by using a DPF (Diesel Particle Filter). When I worked at FCA, my main tasks were related to developing new hybrid vehicle such as eTorque and PHEV. In my current role, I am focusing on optimizing powertrain system integration through considering powerpack cycle efficiency. In addition to strengthening my ability to improve engine emissions, my work experiences have given me the perseverance to overcome any type of adversity and taught me the importance of contributing to company profitability through research. I strongly feel that the combination of my academic and industrial experience well suits the requirements of Automotive and aerospace industry.
