ABOUT PEG ZOKOWSKI
CEO & Founder at CreositySpace—the first innovation-based K-5 science curriculum shifting the paradigm in teaching and learning—and Mentor to some cool blue tech startups at BLUE Incubator. There are 3 themes that run through me and my professional experience: 1. I am passionate about the environment & animal welfare. We can do so much more on both fronts. I support causes, promote awareness, and rescue injured wildlife. Proud to have served on the U.S. DOE\'s Working Group for the Clean Energy, Education & Empowerment (C3E) Program. I think science education needs a serious overhaul starting from the content we use to how we teach it. Hint: decouple interest in science from wanting to do science. And no, we don\'t need another edtech “solution” to accomplish this. I love working with people who have grit and look at a challenge from more than one angle. THAT’s how you arrive at the creative solutions. It’s why working with entrepreneurs is at the heart of everything I’ve done the last 15 years. I fell into education by accident when our son started eagerly sharing his ideas and inventions with me in kindergarten. They ranged from nano solar cells in urban sidewalks for solar hot water to using pineapple enzymes to kill cancer cells. It was clear he was applying what he learned in school with what he learned on his own, and his interests, to address real-world problems, as well as begin to explore career paths. He wanted to explore these connections and the associated careers with his classmates, but there were no resources for his teachers to support this kind of learning. That’s when CreositySpace was unexpectedly launched. As the founder and CEO of two private innovation-focused companies, I fostered communities of learning within the STEM fields. CreositySpace is built around a national network of STEM entrepreneurs, innovators and elementary instruction specialists to design K-5 science curriculum that empowers students to take ownership in their learning. Through Innovators Ink, LLC, I shaped strategic communications, public relations, and content development around clean energy & STEM education, creating channels from lab to classroom to market for state, federal, and private partners. Earlier career experiences in corporate communications and as a freelance contributor to C3Enet.org, Green Economy Post, Under30CEO.com, and Guardian US rounded out strong skill sets built in program management, business development, strategic communications, public relations, and environmental advocacy.
