About Inmaculada Hernandez
I am a Professor with tenure at the University of California, San Diego. My research program sits at the intersection of health services research, pharmaceutical policy, and pharmacoepidemiology. My policy research aims to improve transparency in drug pricing and improve medication access. Funded by NIH, my pharmacoepidemiology research is focused on the application of advanced methods and large datasets to optimize medication use in older adults. I have authored more than 150 scientific articles (>100 as first or senior author), including first-authored papers in leading journals, such as JAMA, JAMA Internal Medicine, or Health Affairs. My scientific contributions have been covered by media worldwide and featured in leading outlets, including New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, CNN, Forbes, or BBC. The influence of my research in policy-making is evidenced by citations in high-profile documents, including ASPE, GAO, and MedPAC reports to Congress, CDC guidelines, FDA reports, NIH requests for information, and testimonies before both Chambers of Congress. I was recognized on the Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2018 and in 2021 I became the first pharmacist to be recognized with the Academy Health Alice S. Hersh Emerging Leader Award. I have been invited to testify before the Senate Finance Committee on pharmaceutical policy matters and I recently held the National Academy of Medicine Fellowship in Pharmacy.
