ABOUT INDIRA ESCOBAR-ZAPATA
Indira Escobar-Zapata is a passionate advocate for change, currently pursuing a B.A. in Communication at the University of Southern California\'s Annenberg School, with minors in Media and Social Change and Entertainment Industry at the School of Cinematic Arts. She aims to support artists of color by first entering the post-production space—learning how to make films and series profitable through marketing and advertising—ensuring scripts by creators of color gain visibility in the bureaucratic sense. From there, she plans to move into development, assisting in script revisions and story refinement to help artists of color get greenlit, allowing the world to see their visions come to life. With her marketing expertise, she also seeks to amplify the reach of these works.Long-term, Indira aspires to fully produce these projects and immerse herself in the entertainment industry. At the same time, she remains deeply passionate about documentary filmmaking as a means of amplifying underrepresented stories and empowering communities. This is evident in her directorial roles, including the award-winning documentary animation Boycut, her Op-Doc series and workshop, and her current documentary project exploring the connection between recycling canners in South Central Los Angeles. Across all her work, Indira is committed to using film as a tool for visibility, impact, and meaningful change.
